End-of-Life Operating Systems

Summary

End-of-life information for Windows and MacOSs.

Body

Operating Systems for computers that past their end-of-life are not permitted on the A&M network.  This restriction is because vendors no longer provide security updates to these systems when new flaws are discovered.

The following systems have passed their end-of-life.

Windows

  • Windows Vista (April 11, 2017)
  • Windows XP (April 8, 2014)
  • Windows 7 on January 14, 2020

Macintosh

Apple typically provides updates for the current OS and the previous two versions.  So, as of the current date (7/14/2017)

  • MacOS 10.15 (Catalina)  EOL Nov 2022
  • MacOS 10.14 (Mojave)  EOL Nov 2021
  • MacOS 10.13 (High Sierra),-- EOL Nov 2020
  • MacOS 10.12 (Siera) - relased 9/20/2016
  • MacOS 10.11 (El Capitan) - released 9/30/2015 
  • MacOS 10.10 (Yosemite) - released 10/16/2014 (upgrade recommended)
  • MacOS 10.9 (or older).  This is no longer supported by Apple.  If you are using this version you need to upgrade as soon as possible.
