By default, the Windows search box may not work with the Google Drive folder in Windows 8.1 and greater. The problem is a permissions issue on the folder. To fix,
- Go to the actual location of the Google Drive folder (e.g., C:\Users\your username\Google Drive) -- not the shortcut under Favorites
- Right click on the G-Drive folder, choose Properties, then the Security tab
- Click on Advanced
- The only permission will likely only be for your user account, click on your user account
- Enable inheritance
- You may also want to check the box to "Replace all child objects .." (this may not be needed
