Windows Search not working for Google Drive

By default, the Windows search box may not work with the Google Drive folder in Windows 8.1 and greater.  The problem is a permissions issue on the folder.  To fix,

  1. Go to the actual location of the Google Drive folder (e.g., C:\Users\your username\Google Drive) -- not the shortcut under Favorites
  2. Right click on the G-Drive folder, choose Properties, then the Security tab
  3. Click on Advanced
  4. The only permission will likely only be for your user account, click on your user account
  5. Enable inheritance
  6. You may also want to check the box to "Replace all child objects .." (this may not be needed
