Adjust Local Screen Lock

The default Screen Lock timeout for computers is 15 minutes.  This means that after 15 minutes of inactivity the computer should lock and require login to unlock it.  At times a shorter time may be needed to fulfill specific security requirements from a sponsor.

This KB article describes how to change the setting for an individual computer.  This taks requires administrative rights (e.g., a Technology Services staff member or CyberArk).

  • Open the administrative program gpedit in admin mode.  One way to do this is open a command window in administrative mode and run gpedit from the command line.
  • Within gpedit, navigate to:  User Configuration --> Administrative Templates --> Control Panel --> Personalization --> Screen Saver Timeout
  • Enable the timeout setting and set the desired number of seconds for the time out.
