Unpublished this article.  The "Download Configuration File" link is it nimitz, which doesn't seem to have an operational web server.)

The following instructions are for the Tech Management students to access the classroom network over VPN.

  1. Download and install the OpenVPN client.
  2. Obtain the configuration file from your instructor.
  3. Refer to the installation instructions for the OpenVPN client you installed in step 1, to determine the proper way to import your configuration file.
    • For the OpenVPN Windows client: save your configuration file in the client "config" directory (default: %Program Files%\OpenVPN\config).
    • For the tunnelblick client: import your configuration files by clicking the "+" button in the configuration panel of the tunnelblick client.
  4. Once your configuration file is recognized by the client, connect to the VPN Server, and you will have access to the 172.24.0.0/22 subnet.  Again, refer to the client documentation for instructions on how to initiate your connection to the VPN server, as this will vary.  For example, the windows client can be run in the background as a service, can be started from the cli, or can be run from the OpenVPN GUI.

Note that the configuration file you obtain ncludes embedded keys and certificates that are used by the VPN server verify your identity, and establish a secure tunnel for communication.  Keep this file secure, to prevent someone from spoofing your identity while connecting to the VPN server.
